These terms explain how ION IT handles domain registrations, renewals, expiry and transfers. Registry rules and third-party terms also apply to each domain extension.
.UK domain terms
ION IT is a Nominet registrar. A person registering or renewing a domain in the .UK family enters into a contract with Nominet and must accept Nominet's current Terms and Conditions of Domain Name Registration, together with applicable .UK registry policies and rules. Those documents form part of the registration arrangements and take priority where registry requirements conflict with these service terms.
Registrant responsibilities
- Provide complete, accurate and current registrant and contact information.
- Keep the administrative email address working and monitored.
- Ensure the registration and use of the domain do not infringe another person's rights or break the law.
- Tell us promptly about changes to ownership, contact information or authority to manage the domain.
- Protect account credentials and notify us of suspected unauthorised changes.
Registration and renewal
Domain orders are subject to availability, registry acceptance and payment. Unless expressly agreed otherwise, registration or renewal is completed only after we have accepted the order and any required payment has cleared. Fees and registration periods are stated in the quotation, order or invoice because registry and supplier pricing can change.
We normally send renewal notices or invoices to the account contact before expiry. These reminders are a safeguard, not a substitute for the registrant keeping its own expiry records and contact details current. Payment of a renewal invoice authorises renewal unless the invoice or service agreement says otherwise.
Expiry of .UK domains
Under the current .UK lifecycle, an unrenewed domain remains renewable after expiry, is normally suspended around 30 days after expiry, and may be cancelled after the overall expiry period. Registry processes and timings can change, so the current Nominet rules apply. Website, email and other services using the domain may stop when the domain is suspended or expires.
Transfers and changes
We will process a legitimate transfer or registrant-change request after completing reasonable identity, authority, security and account checks. ION IT does not impose an artificial release fee for transferring a domain to another registrar. Registry charges, third-party charges, agreed administrative work and outstanding contractual amounts may still be payable.
Transferring a domain does not automatically transfer website files, mailboxes, DNS hosting, certificates or other services. Customers must plan those separately before any service is ended.
Suspension, cancellation and abuse
A domain may be suspended, locked, cancelled or otherwise restricted where required by the registry, law, court order, dispute process, data-validation process, security incident, abuse investigation or these service terms. We may take proportionate urgent action to protect customers, networks or the public.
Domain disputes and complaints
Raise service complaints with ION IT under our Complaints Procedure. Where a complaint concerns an alleged breach of Nominet's registrar obligations and remains unresolved, Nominet's registrar complaint process may be available. Ownership or rights disputes may fall within Nominet's Dispute Resolution Service.
